Acer is committed to driving the Earthion project, focusing on environmental importance by building awareness among employees, partners and customers. The aim is to encourage participation and walk the walk to help reduce pollution problems and create a sustainable force for society.
Innovation and technology are integrated to respond to customer needs while being eco-friendly. The Vero product line-up is being expanded to include notebooks, monitors, projectors, routers, and air purifiers.
Products that cater to the lifestyles of the new generation, such as water filters to help reduce plastic waste are being unveiled and the use of renewable energy through electric bicycles and electric scooters is encouraged.
Acer Computer has revealed sustainable environmental initiatives to mitigate pollution issues through waste reduction to create a positive environmental impact through three collaborative projects including Took Ting | Ting Took), Lea Kho, and Tho Mai. These projects underline our commitment to raising awareness and cultivating environmental problem-solving initiatives while expanding the product line through the integration of environmentally friendly innovations and technologies to cater to eco-conscious lifestyles and promote renewable energy.
Mr. Nitipat Praweenwongwuthi, Marketing Director, Acer Computer Co., Ltd., explained that Acer has established clear sustainable development goals by specifying 3 operational guidelines, Climate Change, Circular Economy, and Social Impact. These can be summarized as follows:
• Climate Change: Committed to using renewable energy, our goal is to reduce energy consumption in computer product manufacturing by a substantial 45% by 2025 compared to 2016. We will also encourage suppliers to commit to RE100 and SBT compliance to further contribute to carbon reduction efforts.
• Circular economy: We aim to elevate the utilization of PCR plastic by 20-30% across a range of product categories, including Computers, Monitors, Projectors and other products.
• Social Impact: Over 90% of employees are engaged in social projects and activities
Acer believes that ‘sustainability’ is a collective effort to instill environmental awareness and consciousness in its employees and partners by presenting ideas, guidelines and activities to drive sustainable initiatives collaboratively. Currently, Acer is advancing through three key activities, namely:
Ting Ting, Took Ting and Ting Took – Acer places significant emphasis on managing electronic waste through its E-Waste project. We have established electronic waste collection points at more than 10 Acer service centers, with plans to increase the number of collection points by 30% in collaboration with our partners. In 2022, Acer collected 918 kilograms of electronic waste, and we anticipate a 20% increase in collection for 2023. This collected e-waste is then carefully sorted, recycled, and properly disposed of in coordination with relevant authorities for safety and environmental preservation.
• “Tho Mai (from) fiber from used plastic bottles” – Acer has joined Wat Chak Daeng to raise awareness about waste separation among employees to collect and deliver plastic water bottles. These are then forwarded to the Community Learning and Waste Management Center at Wat Chak Daeng to be recycled into plastic fiber to produce robes for monks. From the start of the activity until now, the more than 1,800 plastic water bottles sent to Wat Chak Daeng have helped produce over 120 sets of robes.
• “Lea Kho = Ask for the rest to share” – Acer joins with the Baan Nokkamin Foundation to create value for waste to provide income opportunities, covering food and education costs for children assisted by the foundation. Currently, donations are accepted only at the Acer Headquarters service center. Various items have been given to the foundation on more than 5 occasions and there are plans to expand donation points with partners soon.
The success of these 3 initiatives is a starting point from which Acer will expand results and build on other projects to create lasting benefits for the community, society, and the environment.
